Elberta - Shops & Stores

Named after a luscious peach, Elberta is the tiny town folded under the dunes at the mouth of Betsie Bay and Lake Michigan. A deep history of mysterious Native-American villages, shipwrecks, ship heroes, and weather-inspired courage haunts the shores of Betsie Lake where Elberta was originally founded as South Frankfort. These days, you'll glimpse nary a carferry - those amazing wood, then steel-clad ships that allowed commerce and travel to flow through one of Michigan's best harbors. The early 1900s boomed for this town. The place to stop and refresh today is the Trick Dog gallery and coffee shop. Then swing through the fabulous hilltop view of Elberta Beach or follow down to the wavy sand and grass knolls right at Lake Michigan's reach. The occasional glider still soars the dune cliffs of this port. Elberta has nothing to be shy about…today the air is charged by robust innovators who have grand plans for polishing this dusty gem.
