Honor - Recreation

The man who started the local mill on the Platte River and planned out the adjoining village, named it after his little daughter, Honor. The Platte, an honored and lovely fishing, tubing, and canoeing river, runs right through the middle of Benzie County and the Pere Marquette Forest. Honor is a great spot for the National Coho Festival, hosting a favorite local celebration in August, right before the fish run in the fall. Lots of cabins and resorts along the river and the nearby Big and Little Platte lakes provide comfort and fulfilling memories for fishermen and women, hunters, and all vacationers. The retro-reminiscence of a summer drive-in movie is authentically all there at the Cherry Bowl Drive-In theatre, located just west of town. Honor is a spirited community that maintains both an old-town main street and a newer, useful strip mall. Everything is planned together just right and offers restaurants, videos, books, antiques, and some practical stops like a car wash, grocery store, post office, bank, and laundromat. Little Honor has grown up to be, for many, home-sweet-home.
